Countess of Stair. Travelled abroad to escape an abusive marriage. When Primrose died, Eleanor married John Dalrymple (to avoid disgrace). Resulted in a deep affection for him and Lady Eleanor became a prominent society figure in London, Bath and Edinburgh. By 1740s had returned to Scotland, where she died in 1759.
