Examined as a vagrant in Marlborough, 27 July 1756. Born Mary Gaters at 'Cullenabine', Aberdeenshire. Husband is a solider in the King's Own Regiment of Foot, commanded by Brigadier General Wolfe. Has been left destitute with her two children, presumably because Fortescue has been posted overseas. His last place of legal settlement was Tiverton, Devon. Given vagrant's pass to Tiverton.
