Examined for settlement in St Martin in the Fields, 21 January 1737. Aged about 31. Born in Scotland, where he trained as a tailor, but came to London c.1727 as a servant to William Clew, keeper of the Sign of the Blackermores in Shendois Street, who paid him £6 annual wages plus food and lodging. Left Clew c.1733, and currently in the workhouse. Married Jane in St Andrew Holborn, c.1735, but widowed c.1736.
