Set up as a merchant in London engaged in the slave trade (1720s) - Blackwood Cathcart, Nag’s Head Court, Lombard Street. Settled in Kent after marriage. Elected MP for Glasgow Burghs (1727) but Commons awarded seat to his opponent Campbell, Daniel. Petitioned to regain seat but elections committee failed to reach a decision. Died 1777.
