Convicted of stealing 18 guineas from William Cushnee, with whom he was lodging in St Martins in the Field. Claimed to be of a good background, to have studied at the University of Aberdeen, and to have served for several years as an excise-man in Scotland. Recently come to London 'in Expectation of some Advancement' and to escape an unhappy marriage
