Commissioner for the union of Scotland and England (1702). Postmaster general of Scotland (1725-41). Attended first Parliament of Great Britain (1707). MP for Dumfries Burghs on the Queensbury-Annandale interest, supported by Charles Areskine. Did not stand for re-election. Died 1741.
