12th Earl of Morton. Appointed Steward and justiciar of Orkney and Shetland (1696, 1702). Sat as MP for Kirkwall in Scottish Parliament (1702-7), loyal to the Duke of Queensbury. Apparently unwilling to accept nomination to sit in the first Parliament of Great Britain. Elected MP, at by-election, for Tain (Northern) Burghs. Did not stand for re-election. Remained on periphery of political scene. Died 1730.
