From a merchant family and believed to have run away to sea c.1699/1700. Joined a ship in the Netherlands (1724) which sailed around the Mediterranean and to Africa. Gow seized it and suggestion to sail for the safety of Orkney, where it arrived in 1725. Eventually captured by local landowners and were transported to London by sea. After four months imprisonment, convicted for piracy and murder. Executed in 1725.
