Goldsmith to Queen Anne (1597) and jeweller to James VI (1601). Followed the king to London (1603) and established himself as a goldsmith there. On good terms with James, and his house thus became a rendezvous point for Scots arriving in London to petition the king. Known as the 'Jingling Geordie' (a pub on Fleshmarket Close, Edinburgh is named after him).
