Minister of Kiltearn (1654), but deprived on account of sympathy with Protesters (1661). Spent much of the next twenty years conducting conventicles, and suffered several bouts of imprisonment. Finally quit Scotland and settled in Berwick-upon-Tweed (1684), and after a year tried to move to London, but was apprehended upon suspicion of adhering to Monmouth's Rising (1685). Fled to Dutch Republic upon his release, and acted as chaplain to William of Orange. Returned to Scotland (1688), and restored to Kiltearn (1690). Appointed king's chaplain, but died before he could remove to London (1692).
