Minister of Lanark (second charge) (1655) and Mertoun (1657). Expelled for nonconformity (1662), and lived as a noted presbyterian preacher. Declared rebel (1674) and arrested (1676). Escaped,and lived in exile in England and the Dutch Republic. Returned to Scotland (1687), and became minister of Edinburgh's Tolbooth (1691).
