Studied crayon painting in Paris (1745-1751). Worked in Rome (1751-1753) before moving to London (1753). Established herself as a highly respected portrait painter, even receiving commissions from the royal family. Left for India (1777) seeking to establish a practice in Madras, but died shortly afterwards.
