Mentioned in the settlement examination of his wife, Eleanor, at St Clement Danes, 16 May 1761. Originally from 'Rossteen' - probably Rosskeen, Ross-shire - where he served his apprenticeship as a carpenter. In London by c.1747, when he married Eleanor at the Fleet. Subsequently became a soldier.
