Schoolmaster at Scarborough for several years before having his position challenged before the diocese of York. Claimed to have been teaching without leave, to be ill-educated and to be 'a person of a sawcy, proud and rude Carryage and addresse'. Received support from some members of the local community, who in a petition defended his skills and experience.
