Called to the bar (1738). Popular among Edinburgh's legal and literati circles. Connected in county politics with the Duke of Queensbury (Douglas, Charles (London)) who brought Veitch into parliament as MP for Dumfriesshire (1755-61). Appointed to Scottish Bench as Lord Elliock (1761). Died 1793.
