Created Lord Bellenden of Broughton (1661). Succeeded to estates in 1606. Staunch royalist who greatly benefited after the Restoration being made a privy councillor and formally appointed treasurer-depute (1661). Died in London, 1671, and buried in St Martin-in-the-Fields.
