Educated at Clare College, Cambridge (1745). Elected, unopposed, MP for Inverness-shire (1754-61) with help of the Duke of Argyll who was anxious to obtain a seat for Campbell. Often differed in voting from his father. Counted as a friend by the Administration, also voted with the Opposition. Elected MP for Nairnshire (1761-68) and then on Welsh interest sat for Cardigan Boroughs (March-Dec 1768) Lord of Treasury (1766-68). Died 1768.
