Countess of Devonshire. Daughter of Edward Bruce, Lord Kinloss and Magdalen Clerk. Widowed in 1628 becoming de facto head of the family. Firm royalist during the civil wars. Moved to Ampthill, Bedforshire (1647). Home at Roehampton, Surrey became a centre for royalist plots, including sending money to Charles II. Lady Devonshire avoided arrest through bribery. Died in Southampton Buildings, Middlesex in 1675 and was buried in All Saints' Church, Derby
