Read maths at Edinburgh University (1684). Travelled to Cambridge in 1685 where Craig published his first, of many, works. Graduated MA from Edinburgh (1687) before moving to London in 1689. Published two other major mathematical works. Ranked among the originators of calculus. Elected fellow of the Royal Society (1711). Craig's ecclesiastical career was spent in the see of Salisbury - Vicar of Gillingham Major (1696), collated in addition prebend of Durnford and canon of Salisbury Cathedral; collated prebend of Gillingham (1726), a cure formerly held by his elder brother, William. Died at High Holborn, London (1731) and buried at St James's, Clerkenwell.
