Graduated St Andrew’s University (1559). Went to France in 1556 as a tutor and entered the Catholic church. Opposed to Henry of Navarre, forced to leave France; settled in Brussels. Returned to Scotland (1600) on a Catholic mission. Interdicted by the Privy council. Hidden by friends across Scotland but arrested in 1608. Imprisoned, and died, in the Tower of London.
