Ninth Earl of Marischal. Took seat in Scottish Parliament (1698). Sworn of the privy council (1701). Known Jacobite leanings resulted in imprisonment in Edinburgh Castle during 1708 rising. Sent to London for trial. Made one of sixteen representative peers of Westminster (1710), a post held until his death in 1712.
