Fourth son of Robert Ker, first Marquess of Lothian. Lieutenant-colonel of the 15th Regiment. Given command of 29th Regiment (1712), 13th Regiment (1725) and 11th Dragoons (1732). Appointed Governor of Guernsey (1740). Became governor of Edinburgh Castle (1745). Died in London, unmarried, in London and is buried in Kensington (1752)
