Fought on Royalist side, and wounded, in the Civil War. After recovery, fled to France where he took the degree of MD at Angers. Worked as physician in the household of Gaston, duc d'Orléans (1650-1660). Through connection was introduced to Charles II, whom he accepted an invitation from become royal physician and botanist. Moved to London August 1660. Continued worked classifying plants and publishing findings. Elected professor of botany at Oxford (1669). During visit to London, was struck by a carriage poll whilst crossing the street and was fatally injured. Morison died at his house in Green Street, Leicester Fields (1683). Buried in St Martin-in-the-Fields.
