5th earl of Loudoun from 1782. Little interest in politics, not even enrolled as an elector in Ayrshire when his cousin, the 4th Earl of Loudoun, put him forward as a candidate. Elected as MP for Ayrshire in 1754, holding seat until 1761. Completely guided by Loudoun and Campbell, Archibald (London) 1. Died 1786.
