Father, Gilbert, was the principle surgeon to James VI. Studied at St Andrews University. Initially settled in France but maintained Scottish contacts. Visited Britain in 1607 and was commissioned to ask King James to free Andrew Melville who was imprisoned in Tower. Request was unsuccessful and Primrose returned to France.In 1623, Primrose returned to London where he was chosen as the minister of a French refugee church. Appointed chaplain by Charles I (c.1626). Primrose, who was a prolific writer, died at his house in Chiswell Street (1642).
