First Earl of Traquair. Created Lord of Parliament (1628). Elevated to earldom for services to Charles I (1633). Travelled to London in 1636 and promoted to lord high treasurer. In 1648 Traquair raised a troop of horse for the ‘Engagement’ but taken prisoner at battle of Preston. He was imprisoned in Warwick Castle between 1648-52.
