King of Great Britain and Ireland (1625-1649). Defeated by Scottish Covenanters in Bishops Wars (1639-1640), and by English Parliament in English Civil Wars (1642-1646, 1648). Lost control of Ireland to Catholic Confederates (1641). Executed for treason (1649).
