Attended Eton 1728-32. Lord of the Privy Seal 1763-5 and again 1766 until death in 1800. Raised by uncles, Campbell, John (London) and Campbell, Archibald (London) 1. Elected MP for Argyllshire 1742 and voted against the Government. Elected MP for Buteshire on his family's interests 1747-54. Also head seats for Ayr Burghs 1754-61 and Ross-shire 1761-80.
