Mentioned in the settlement examination of his wife, Margaret, at St Martin in the Fields, 12 December 1739. Trained as a barber and wig-maker in Scotland, but in London by c.1724, when he was employed as a servant to one Mr Simpson, wig-maker in Bradford Bury. Served him for about 3.5 years, and shortly thereafter married at the Sign of the Magpie on the Fleet. Abandoned his wife c.1737, and subsequent movements not known. Apparently has a sister, presumably also Scottish, who runs a public house in Wapping, and who has taken over the care of his daughter, Sarah.
