Migrated to London and called to the English bar. Became a Bencher of Lincoln's Inn. Died 1754. According to J.B. Paul, Horace Walpole wrote of Hamilton that he was 'the first Scot who ever pleaded at the English bar, and, as it was said of him, should have been the last.'
