Migrated to London and entered at Lincoln's Inn, 7 January 1708, later being called to the bar and acting as bencher and called to the English. Died 1754. Horace Walpole famously wrote of Hamilton that he was 'the first Scot who ever pleaded at the English bar, and, as it was said of him, should have been the last.'
