Strict Presbyterian. Did not take part in the Fifteen Rebellion, led by his brother [[Erskine, John (London) 1]]. Allied himself with [[Campbell, Archibald (London) 1]], placing the Erskine interest as his disposal. Became dissatisfied, however, with Ilay 1732.
