Founded a bank in the Strand (1692), also supplying gold jewellery. Largely patronised by London-Scots, but also enjoyed commissions from Queen Anne. In 1708, he took on Middleton, George as a partner, and Middleton took over the bank after Campbell's death, while also marrying his daughter and heir, Mary.
