Born to James Anderson and Jean Campbell, and brother to the writer Adam Anderson. Baptized at St Nicholas's Church, Aberdeen. Anderson was educated in Aberdeen and ordained a minister on 11 December 1707. He first moved to London as minister to the Glass House Street Congregation until 1710. He was then appointed minister of the Presbyterian Church in Swallow Street. A prolific writer with one of his pamphlets causing him to leave Swallow Street in 1734. Anderson then became minister of Lisle Street Chapel in Leicester Fields remaining until his death. Married an unknown woman of considerable wealth. Buried 1 June 1739 at Bunhill Fields, Finsbury London.
