Examined for settlement in St Martin in the Fields, 14 November 1737. Aged about 56. Came from Scotland in 1726 and set up as barber and wig-maker in Covent Garden, moving around various rented properties. Left in 1733, apparently moving to Bromley, where he remained until returning to London in 1737. Married Barbara in Blackfriars, 1727, and had a daughter, Barbara, born in Bromley, c.1735.
