Lord Strathnaver. Travelled to London in 1700 to join his father, Sutherland, John (London) (the sixteenth earl of Sutherland). Returned to Sutherland estates 1705. Father of Sutherland, John (Kensington) Elected MP for Tain (Northern) Burghs in 1708. Disqualified, however, once decision taken by the House (December 1708) that eldest sons of Scottish peers could not sit in Parliament under the terms of the Union. Appears to have tried to pursue a military career. Died of consumption in 1720.
